About Me:
I have been a licensed practicing psychologist in Wilmington for 40 years. My first seven years I was on the faculty of the medical school in Chapel Hill, and I ran the Wilmington TEACCH Center. I left that position to start a private practice with several other providers, Cape Fear Psychological Services, and in 2001 I moved to my present office on Wrightsville Ave. to start a solo practice.
I describe my practice as a Family Practice of Mental Health. Like a Family Physician I see people of all ages, I address a wide variety of issues, most of my clients are pretty healthy and involved in life, and many of the issues I address affect or revolve around families.
I have worked for over 20 years collaboratively with Wilmington Health Pediatrics (previous The Children’s Clinic) in their Learning and Behaviors Clinic.
I feel very fortunate to have received the excellent training and mentoring I did at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where I received my PhD and completed a two year Post doctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Psychology. I consider it a privilege to work with the clients I do and place your improved mental health and well being as my priority.
My office manager, Jeannie Moreland, and I make every effort to make our clients feel safe, valued, and respected. The office is in a comfortable, private small office park 1 mile before the Wrightsville Beach Bridge. I offer day and evening appointments and am available for emergency visits as well.
When not in the office I spend the majority of time working on my farm with my wife, where I raise grassfed cattle in a sustainable farming practice (www.matesfarm.com). We also travel a considerable amount visiting our three children who are spread across the country and presenting workshops on a variety of mental health topics.
